About our Founder

Gopal Ji

My yoga story began when I was 15 years old. I went to a yoga seminar in Rishikesh at Yog Niketan, and that’s where I first discovered the amazing world of yoga. For many years after that, I studied yoga and learned from experienced yoga masters in the Himalayas, right here in Rishikesh. I attended lots of classes and seminars led by Swami Yogananda, and these experiences really sparked my yoga journey. I started to understand the spiritual side of yoga, and it felt like my life was naturally moving in a more spiritual direction.
I learned Iyengar Yoga for two years from Usha Devi ji, who was a direct student of the legendary B.K.S. Iyengar. After that, I began teaching yoga and helping people improve their lives through this practice. At the same time, I was also exploring ancient texts and Vedic practices with scholars at places like Kailash Ashram in Rishikesh. While I was working on my master’s degree in Yogic Science, I was introduced to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga by Saraswathi Jois. She’s the daughter of K. Pattabhi Jois, who is known as the father of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. She became my second teacher, and I learned Ashtanga Vinyasa from her in Mysore, a place I still visit regularly to practice.
Getting my master’s degree in Yogic Science while learning from Usha Devi ji deepened my connection with yoga even more. This led to opportunities to teach yoga all over the world. I spent over eight years teaching in countries like China, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan, helping people improve their health, find healing, and understand yoga and spirituality better.
After my time teaching abroad, I came back to Rishikesh and started teaching free yoga classes to local students and other yoga enthusiasts. I wanted to help them get started on their own yoga paths. My goal has always been to help create dedicated yogis who can share the traditions and teachings of yoga with the world.

While teaching these classes in Rishikesh, I met many people from all over the world. Seeing how yoga positively changed their lives inspired me to keep practicing and teaching. I was then invited by many yoga schools in Rishikesh to teach Hatha Yoga. I led teacher trainings, workshops, and retreats, and I taught at yoga festivals, corporate events, and health seminars in India and other countries.
Because so many people asked me to create my own programs for those who wanted to deepen their yoga practice, I decided to open my own residential yoga school, Adishakti Yogpeeth, in Rishikesh in 2018. At Adishakti Yogpeeth, our goal is to share authentic yoga knowledge through special programs, teacher trainings, workshops, retreats, and practices that help develop the mind. I’m always working to build a team of dedicated yogis who can share the true tradition of yoga with everyone.
